We went to our first Christmas party of the year on Sunday – the Anki OVERDRIVE Christmas party! We were invited to go along and check out all the new ANKI packs that are out for Christmas. Rian was so excited – any excuse to go on the tube, and he insisted we had to get the bus even though it was only a ten-minute walk because he loves the new route masters.
When we got to the event, we met some guys who talked to us about the game. Anki OVERDRIVE is an intelligent racing game. Each supercar is actually a self-aware robot driven by AI. You can build tracks with pieces (there are loads of different shaped ones) really easily, and set up your cars to race. The cars scan the track so they can whizz round without falling off!
It’s not just a racing game, though, because the cars can also battle each other and each has its own lot of weapons that you can control through your mobile or tablet (works with both iOS and Android). There are lots of different kits, and because it’s software-based you get various updates along the way too.
We loved the event itself as well – Rian got to get his face painted, and then he got to race with all the different cars on differently set up tracks. Our favourite was the Supertrucks – you can race a friend, but you also have to get past the Supertruck or it will block you!.
Father Christmas even turned up – but Rian informed me that it wasn’t the real Santa because his beard was falling off, and he had a wedding ring on. I tried to persuade him that maybe Santa had alopecia and that he definitely might be married, but he was having none of it – Santa has reindeer, not a wife…!
We had great fun and an Anki OVERDRIVE kit is a great idea for a Christmas present.
