A Return To Art

It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything creative that isn’t writing or the odd poem. I’ve done the odd doodle here and there, but actually creating something on paper isn’t something I’ve done properly for a very long time. Depressingly, I just worked out that is is in fact 20 years since I got a B in GCSE Art (I’m still annoyed I didn’t get an A – I left my exam homework AT home, idiot)

So when my friend told me about an Art Class she was going to, I was intrigued. At first I didn’t want to intrude as she went with a friend but I ended up popping along today and I’m so glad I did. It’s a really relaxed class – the tutor will demonstrate a medium, and then you can get on with whatever you want. Because I had turned up ad hoc, I didn’t have any stuff with me so I had a go at what she had demonstrated – soft pastels.

I never used to use a lot of colour, even when doing my GCSE, always favouring line drawing and charcoal but I absolutely loved it today. It was utterly enthralling working on something so intensely with no distractions, and pure enjoyment. I’ve booked up the rest of the half terms course, and I can’t wait to get stuck in to next week’s lesson!
