A Budget Mother’s Day Gift Guide

I’m not really one for ostentatious presents – well, I wouldn’t MIND them – but to be honest I prefer little treats to things I’m too scared to carry on the tube or even put my purse in. With that in mind, I thought I would put together a gift guide that can please on a budget!

One of the old adages about motherhood is that you lose all time for yourself. Which, for a while at least, is TOTALLY TRUE. So fitting in treats that don’t take too much time out of your bottom-wiping snack making schedule are ideal. A little hamper of beauty treats is a lovely idea for any busy Mum.

I was sent several things to put together a hamper, and having used them all in the name of research of course, I can recommend them all! This picture was supposed to be a super stylish flat lay, but Evie kept sticking her nose in so she’s modelling the hamper instead. It’s because she’s in love with the fluffy throw from TJ Hughes – it’s perfect for snuggling up together on snowy days watching movies – it was only £15, a super-soft bargain!

I love this Phil Smith Argan shampoo, conditioner and treatment – it’s only £2.50 per item in Sainsbury’s but it should be more – it makes my hair really bouffy and shiny. I also use a little of the oil on Rian’s hair after swimming and it is really softening. You can’t have a hamper without some lovely hand cream, and SEAMS is a favourite in our house. Mark bought me a gift set for my first Mothers Day when Rian was only three weeks old – right in the midst of hand-washing-every-five-minutes-hell and it was a god send!

I’ve also got this face cream from the TJ Hughes gifts for her section – it’s a bargain website, so you can get some great deals. The box was a little dinked, but who cares about the box when you’ve got yourself a £70 face cream for £25?? Not that motherhood gives you wrinkles or anything. Ahem.

The last thing I put in my hamper is another bargain from the same website – a large scented Bayliss & Harding candle, which nicely covered the scent of burnt fingernail I created when lighting it! It was only £5, they are usually a lot more! Perfect for the five minutes you get to yourself in the bath before the kids pile in with you!

This whole ‘pamper hamper’ would cost £70 – which isn’t that much of a budget all in, but a couple of little bits out of it together would make a lovely and pocket friendly treat.

If like me the Mummy in your life has a small issue with beauty subscription boxes (ahem) then you could just get something less traditionally Mother’s Day-sy and more specific to taste. I can’t wait to get into this brilliant craft kit from Dremel Hatch where you get to create your own skyline on a pallet board. It comes with London and New York skylines, but there are more online you can download. I’m going to see if there is one for Rome, which is where Mark and I got engaged. Another treat that I was sent to try out was a lovely keepsake biscuit tin from Bicuiteers. The biscuits didn’t keep very long, because I ate them.

All the biscuits are individually iced and carefully wrapped – they are stuck down with a blob of icing so they can survive the sorting office football with parcels match – mine were all pristine (until said scoffing occured, shortly after photography) They have lots of gorgeous selections on their website – tasty treats indeed!
