Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

I may have mentioned it on the odd occasion – I did most of my growing up on the Isle of Wight. We still visit regularly, and I usually manage to induct the boy into some sort of family tradition.

Last year it was fishing, this year – in a similarly watery vein, it was crabbing!

It’s fairly simple – buy a spool with a weight and net, stuff the net with bacon, and plop it off the side of the harbour…then wait!

We were of course successful in our endeavours and caught several magnificent specimens of crabby gloriousness.

No nips were experienced – due to the sensible handling as demonstrated by a gurning Mumzilla in the above photo.

A lovely afternoon was topped off with ice cream and a visit to the canoe lake to see the newest additions – some extremely SQUEEE-worthy ducklings!

  1. Ahh not something we’ve tried yet but I always see people hanging over (sea) walls doing it and we have a bucket..maybe I should get ourselves sorted with the rest of the gear too! Lovely pics, lovely sunny day #triballove

  2. Ah we live in the Midands, but this post makes me want to move to by the sea!! Definitely want to try this when we next go to the seaside!x

  3. I love the seaside! So many happy memories of going to the beach as children and I would love to live by the sea. Haha your pictures make me chuckle. I think I’m a bit creeped out by crabs though…#triballove #ablogginggoodtime

  4. Oh mine loved this too! And you look like you were in the med – amazing weather – lucky you! I’ve never been to the Isle of Wight – must pop it on the list of places to go – looks beautiful and as we are keen sailors I know we’d have a fab time – even if not crabbing! Gorgeous photo diary #Triballove

  5. Oh my goodness has the Wrighty been stealing Jersey’s sun. How glorious the weather looks in your photos. Now I am going to try very hard to resist making any inappropriate crab jokes…..

  6. Ohh gorgeous photos Sarah! I went to the Isle of Wight when I was in Year 4 and I remember putting coloured sand into a test tube and taking it home with me. It’s a lovely place and I’d love to go back with the littlun some time xx #triballove
